Storage Hot Water Systems

Storage hot water systems are the more traditional type of hot water units.  Storage systems have a tank where cold water is heated and stored before being sent through the hot water outlets and into your home.

As hot water is lighter than cold water, the tanks are designed in a way to allow cold water to enter and sit at the base of the tank, where it is heated by either an electric element or a gas burner. Hot water then exits at the top of the tank. As long as the tank is heating the cold water at a quicker rate than the hot water leaving the tank, you will always have a steady supply of hot water.

It is essential to choose the right size tank to match your hot water usage as a tank too small will leave you without hot water when you need it and you may end up paying extra to maintain the heat of a tank full of water you don’t use (standby energy losses).
